Letters and papers of Stephen Rand, assistant engineer in the United States Navy. Collection includes Rand's orders to serve on various ships, among them the "U.S.S. Kearsarge", and letters of recommendation from his superior officers. Includes notes with engineer's drawings of machine parts related to ships. Also includes letters from Theodosia Stockbridge of Hanover, N.H. and pamphlets on religion.

Rand was born in Norwich, Vt. in 1844. He was a member of Dartmouth College Class on 1863 and received his AB in 1879.
